I'm a writer on the search.
I consider myself a writer who likes to cross boundaries. As a writer, I've enjoyed the challenge of blurring the lines between genres and have taken great pleasure in melding essay and poetry, historical fiction and creative nonfiction, and fusing traditional writing with media: the digital essay
Digital essay is film making for the writer, combining the writer's words and voice with images and sound, which bring personal voice to a new intensity, thus adding another layer of exploration and reflection to a genre that is already deeply invested in investigation of the personal.
I live in the San Francisco Bay Area with my husband and dog, Finnegan. I spent my undergrad at Otterbein College with majors in Women’s Studies and English.
During my undergraduate career, I had the opportunity to create and edit Otterbein College’s first feminist zine, Kate. I've been awarded the James Martin Humanities Award and have been a two time recipient of the Cornell Merriss Study of Women in Society Endowed Research Fund.
Currently, I'm pursuing an MFA in Creative Writing at California College of Arts in San Francisco and have had the privilege to study with Natalie Goldberg, Phillip Lopate, and Ken Prestininzi.
Some of my poetry, essays, and scholarly writing have been published in Quiz & Quill, Aegis, and OMG!Lit.
Boeto, one of my plays, was published in 2006 and won first prize in the Quiz & Quill Playwriting Award. Since then, Boeto has been selected by the Playwrights Center of San Francisco for their fall 2008 staged reading series.
Currently, I'm working on a new series of plays, some of which will incorporate digital essay, as well as continue to slow walk through the writing my memoir, Book of Taos.
