This is the first digital essay I made. I'm quite fond of it even in its rough state as it is what inspired me to move further into exploration of traditional essay with new media. Once I saw how images, voice, and sound performed in different ways to bring out the subtext of story, I was hooked.
The idea for Yellow Notepad came to me in an epiphanic moment. I had looked at this notepad dozens of times and had never seen much value in it. Then, after rummaging around in a dusty drawer one day, I found it again. This time something stood on the page and in that moment of discovery, I realized the complexity of the story I was trying to tell.
jennifer ~ it was so good to see you again today, and to meet your husband!
i knew you were a gifted writer, it was a delight to explore this project and discover your gifts in vlogging too!
this simple style of narrative plus photo-animation (i think that's what you call it) is precisely what i would like to see produced for part of crosstown's publicity. is that something which you or anyone you know would be able to help create?
i especially liked the way the photo textures seemed to match up with the emotional textures of what you were sharing. as you wondered about the underscoring of "MY DAD" (with the brilliant scrolling text that flowed over the two pens...yesss!) i found myself deeply missing my dad. so... thanks - you not only drew me in to your web 'o words, but now i need to give my dad a call and catch up. :) i may never get that sermon ready for tomorrow!
peace,

Thanks for all the kind words Dave. I would be more than happy to work with Crosstown.
